Kuntilanak (Malay language: puntianak, Pontianak) is a ghost who is believed to come from pregnant women who died or the woman who died due to childbirth and child have not been born. The name "kuntilanak" or "Pontianak" most likely comes from the combination of the word "pregnant" (pregnant) and "son". This myth is similar to the mythical ghost langsuir known in Southeast Asia, especially in the Indonesian archipelago. Kuntilanak ghost myth since ancient myth has also become common in Malaysia after being taken by immigrants from the archipelago.

Pontianak city got its name because it is said Abdurrahman Alkadrie, founder of the Sultanate of Pontianak, this ghost disturbed when the court will determine the place of establishment.
